Citibank sent an email encouraging me to go paperless and in exchange they will plant a tree (presumably in the name of my debt.) I love the idea of a more "green" life when it comes to minimizing paper in my life, but my issue with paperless statements is a perceived lack of access to my data.
"View and print current and past statements up to six months."
Right now I can go into my file drawer and examine a charge from any of the previous 12 months with no waiting. In this instant society, I don't want to wait for my own data to come back to me - even a day later. The cynic in me doesn't believe that Citibank desires to be "green" - the cynic wants to know how much money they save by shifting consumers to paperless transactions. The Internets is open and Smokey the Bear is standing by - comments please.
I'm sure they do want to save money on paper, but I think I like the campaign, though. Definitely makes the customer feel good about making a decision that benefits the company. Hmmm...
